Mariel boat-lift
One year, he devised a training program for those working with refugees and immigrants in Florida. The Cubans, many of whom were part what was called "the Mariel boat-lift" - prisoners, dissidents, and unmotivated youth whom Castro wanted to get rid of - had lived most of their lives under a Communist system. They had no experience with things such as "finding a job" (one had been assigned to them) and so they didn't know what to do with a slip of paper giving the name of a prospective employer.
